Code of Ethics – Acupuncture and Massage School of Oriental Medicine (AMOM)

仁心仁术 · 和而不同
With compassion and integrity, we uphold harmony in diversity.

As future health and wellness professionals, all students at the Acupuncture and Massage School of Oriental Medicine (AMOM) are expected to demonstrate exceptional ethical, professional, and compassionate behavior. These standards apply during training, in clinical environments, and throughout the community we serve.

🌿 Professional Conduct at AMOM
医德为先 · 德艺双馨

Students are expected to behave with maturity, integrity, and respect toward peers, instructors, staff, and the public. AMOM holds its students accountable to high standards of academic honesty, personal responsibility, and cultural humility. Behavior that undermines these principles—on or off campus—may result in disciplinary action, suspension, or dismissal.

🌟 AMOM’s Core Ethical Foundations
道法自然 · 修身齐家

Our ethical guidelines are grounded in the philosophies of Eastern healing, modern professional practice, and the holistic care of body, mind, and spirit. AMOM’s students are expected to uphold the following:

  • The Spirit of Healing – Equal Compassion for All (医者父母心)
  • Holistic Integrity – Harmony of Body, Mind, and Practice (身心合一)
  • National Standards – Code of Ethics of the Healing Professions

🕊 The Spirit of Healing – Equal Compassion for All
医乃仁术 · 普济众生

“A true healer honors the life in every person and offers care without condition or judgment.”
大医精诚

Students are taught to approach every client with unconditional respect and compassion—regardless of age, background, identity, or circumstance. Our practitioners are expected to treat every patient as they would a family member—with empathy, dignity, and professional care.

💛 Holistic Integrity – Mind, Body, and Practice
内修其心 · 外正其行

“To care for others, one must first quiet their own spirit, and serve with humility and presence.”
静以修身,俭以养德

Healing begins with the mindset and heart of the practitioner. AMOM students are trained to develop emotional discipline, clarity, and self-awareness. This includes being:

  • Free of selfish motives in patient care
  • Calm and focused in clinical settings
  • Dedicated to relieving the suffering of others

🧭 AMOM Professional Code of Ethics
厚德载医 · 道济天下

In line with national standards for bodywork, acupuncture, and holistic health professions, all AMOM students must commit to the following Code of Ethics:

  • Respect every client’s privacy, boundaries, and personal dignity.
  • Practice only within your trained and legal scope of expertise.
  • Provide honest, clear communication about treatments and outcomes.
  • Uphold fairness and non-discrimination in all patient interactions.
  • Pursue lifelong learning and professional growth with humility.
  • Refer patients to other healthcare providers when appropriate.
  • Support access to holistic care in underserved and diverse communities.
  • Promote the ethical and professional growth of classmates and colleagues.
  • Contribute positively to the wellbeing of the community through service and care.

📌 Ethical Commitment at AMOM
誓愿普救含灵之苦

All students are required to review, understand, and affirm their commitment to AMOM’s Code of Ethics prior to participating in clinical practice. Violation of these principles may result in disciplinary review or dismissal from the program.
