About the Oriental Medicine Massage therapy licnese Program
Oriental Medicine Massage Therapy License Program
The Oriental Medicine Massage Therapy License Program is a unique 800-hour educational journey that blends the best of Eastern and Western healing traditions. Offered by the Acupuncture and Massage School of Oriental Medicine, this program is designed for students who are passionate about health, wellness, and hands-on healing. It is especially ideal for those who wish to go beyond traditional massage therapy by exploring the ancient wisdom of Oriental medicine and integrating it into a modern therapeutic practice.
At the heart of this program is a balanced curriculum that covers both foundational Western massage techniques and time-honored Eastern practices. Students begin with essential courses in anatomy, physiology, and pathology to understand the human body from a clinical perspective. They are trained in a variety of hands-on techniques such as Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, sports massage, chair massage, and myofascial release. These techniques prepare students to address musculoskeletal pain, promote relaxation, and improve circulation and mobility in diverse client populations.
What truly sets this program apart, however, is its rich integration of traditional Oriental medical knowledge. Students are introduced to the principles of Chinese medicine, including the meridian system, acupoints, and the theory of yin-yang and the five elements. They gain practical experience with Eastern healing modalities such as reflexology, gua sha, fire cupping, and moxibustion. These techniques have been used for centuries to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and restore energetic balance in the body. This comprehensive training allows students to offer more than just massage—they provide holistic, culturally rooted care that addresses both physical symptoms and underlying energetic imbalances.
In addition to in-class training, students gain real-world experience in the school’s supervised clinic. Here, they treat clients from the local community, developing their confidence and skill while serving others. This clinical component ensures graduates are not only knowledgeable but also fully prepared to begin working as professional massage therapists.
The program also includes preparation for the MBLEx (Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination), which is required for licensure in most U.S. states. Our partnership with MBLEx Academy gives students access to top-tier test preparation resources, including 10 specialized tutoring sessions, real exam simulation software, and over 2,000 practice questions. Our students consistently pass the MBLEx with confidence and go on to build successful careers in massage clinics, wellness centers, spas, and private practices.
Graduates of this program receive a diploma in Massage Therapy and are eligible to apply for state licensure in Michigan. Whether you are beginning a new career or enhancing your current path, the Oriental Medicine Massage Therapy Program offers the knowledge, tools, and hands-on experience to help you succeed. Rooted in ancient healing traditions and grounded in modern science, this program is more than an education—it’s a gateway into a meaningful, healing profession.
Program Format & Schedule
Our Doctor of Acupuncture Program is a four-year program with three terms per year (fall, spring, and summer). New students begin in the fall term only. Classes are held one evening and two full days during the week for the first two years, with the schedule changing slightly during the clinical internship starting in the summer term of year two. The fourth year is conducted 100% online in an asynchronous format. Those with existing Master’s degrees in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can apply directly to the Doctor of Acupuncture Program completion track.
